Austin Dillon Earns Third Victory of the Season at Daytona

July 5, 2015

NASCAR XFINITY Series – Subway Firecracker 250 Powered by Coca-Cola
July 4, 2015 – Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Fla.

Austin Dillon and the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet team claimed their third victory of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season at Daytona International Speedway in the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered by Coca-Cola on July Fourth. After starting the scheduled 100-lap event from the seventh position, Dillon slipped out of the top lane draft and fell as far back as 32nd place by lap 20. Crew chief Danny Stockman called the 25-year-old driver to pit road for four tires, fuel and a small chassis adjustment during the competition caution on lap 16. Dillon began his plan with drafting partners to make his way back through the field racing within the top 25 for the next 40 circuits around the famed track. The Stockman-led team visited pit road again on lap 58, under green flag conditions, for right-side tires and fuel rejoining the racing surface in fifth place. Dillon held on to the draft and missed two late-race incidents to cross the finish line in first place. Saturday’s victory is the Rheem team’s third victory of the season and 10th top-10 finish in 2015.

This win is by far one of the most special. To win at Daytona is an incredible feeling. We didn’t really have a great car in the draft, but we were patient and smart and were there at the end. It’s like a game of chess out there, you have to make the right moves at the right time and put yourself in position to attack. I can’t say enough about this Rheem team. We made a couple of changes back at the shop over the last week, and it’s great to be back with my old crew chief Danny Stockman and the boys. I’m really proud of them. This is a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July. – Austin Dillon
