Rheem Wins Two 2012 Gold Dealer Design Awards.

July 10, 2012

The Rheem H2AC Rooftop Unit featuring eSync Integration Technology and the Rheem XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater Earn Top Honors in ACHR News’ Annual Competition

ATLANTA—July 10, 2012–Rheem has been honored with two top prizes in the Ninth-Annual Dealer Design Awards—one of the industry’s most respected award competitions. The Rheem H2AC Rooftop Unit featuring eSync Integration Technology earned a Gold Dealer Design Award in the Commercial Equipment category and the Rheem XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater won a Gold Dealer Design Award in the Residential Equipment category.

Sponsored by The Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration (ACHR) News magazine, the Dealer Design Awards recognize contractor-oriented products with features that assist in installation, maintenance and service of installed products to the HVACR industry. This year, the awards received more than 80 product nominations. Thirty-nine products were selected as winners of a Gold, Silver or Bronze awards. The awards feature 14 product categories and only one Gold winner is recognized in each category.

“We are very honored and grateful to earn not one—but two—2012 Gold Dealer Design Awards,” said Chris Peel, senior vice president and COO, Rheem. “The DDA awards are especially meaningful because they were selected by a diverse panel of contractors. Earning top honors for both the H2AC Rooftop Unit and the Rheem XR90 is a validation for us that these industry-first products will make a difference for contractors and end users in the marketplace.”

Launched in January 2012 and designed for full-service restaurants, the Rheem H2AC Rooftop Unit featuring eSync Integration Technology is a first-of-its-kind system that unites a building’s HVAC and water heating systems. When a restaurant has a demand for air conditioning and hot water, this integrated solution switches over from a refrigerant-to-air system, to a refrigerant-to-water system. This is an energy efficient option because the heat of the refrigerant is transferred to the water instead of rejected outside as in a normal air conditioning cycle. Rheem estimates that this system can save a restaurant up to 50 percent on its monthly water heating expenses.

The 29-gallon Rheem XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater delivers hot water faster— and more efficiently—than a standard 50-gallon gas water heater (0.58 EF and 40,000 Btu/h). This ENERGY STAR® -qualified unit debuted in July 2011, and it has a first hour rating (FHR) of 90 gallons—meaning homeowners get three times the amount of hot water in an hour than what the tank actually holds. Plus, it costs 17 percent less to operate annually than a standard 50-gallon gas water heater—only $261 for the Rheem XR90 versus $315 for the 50-gallon gas model, based on U.S. Department of Energy annual operating cost figures. The Rheem XR90 also earned an AHR Expo Innovation Award in January 2012.

ACHR News Publisher Mike Murphy stated, “These awards give us a unique opportunity to recognize the outstanding research and development efforts that go into many of the products serving the HVACR industry and the awards issue gives our readers an opportunity to read about innovative installation and service solutions.”

Winning entries in the Dealer Design Awards were featured in the July 9, 2012, issue of The ACHR News, which is distributed nationally to more than 33,000 HVACR contractors, wholesalers and other industry professionals.
