Rheem® named eco-leader by green builder media for fifth consecutive year
August 9, 2022
ATLANTA, Aug. 9, 2022 - For the fifth year in a row, Rheem® has been named a
2022 Eco-Leader by Green Builder Media. A leading global manufacturer of water
heating and HVACR products, Rheem is actively driving a sustainability program
to minimize its impact on the environment.
Here are a few reasons why, according to Green Builder, Rheem
earned this recognition:
Designing for the Future. The organization’s R&D,
sourcing, manufacturing and other teams conduct Sustainability Strategy
Sessions to determine where new products can make the greatest positive impact
throughout their lifecycle.
Using Waste as a Resource. All of Rheem’s global manufacturing sites are focused on
achieving Zero Waste to Landfill by diverting 97% of their non-hazardous solid
waste away from landfills and incinerators, with up to 7% processed with waste-to-energy
technology. Seven global sites have already achieved diversion rates of 97% or
greater.
Prioritizing Regenerative Resources. Rheem’s global
manufacturing sites are also exploring the use of renewable energy to cut plant
greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2025. As an example, its water heater
manufacturing plant in Santiago, Chile is now sourcing 100% of its electricity
from renewable energy.
“We celebrate this honor with the innovators at Rheem who
are committed to bringing our sustainability mission to life,” said Rheem’s
President and CEO Chris Peel. “Our people are designing sustainability into our
products, reimagining greener manufacturing processes, and delivering
game-changing solutions to our customers and end-users. This is Rheem’s
commitment for today, tomorrow, and beyond because we embrace our
responsibility to use our global reach for global good.”
The Eco-Leader recognition is the highest accolade offered by
Green Builder magazine’s editorial team.
“We congratulate Rheem for being selected as an Eco-Leader,”
said Sara Gutterman, Green Builder Media CEO.
“It’s essential that we shift to a decarbonized economy as quickly as
possible, and companies like Rheem are playing a pivotal role in that
transition. We commend Rheem, and all of
our Eco-Leaders, for accepting the responsibility of making the planet a better
place and creating positive change in the world.”
