Hornaday Survives Kansas, Finishes Eighth In Caution-Filled Race

Ron Hornaday Jr. finished eighth for Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) at Kansas Speedway on a wild Friday night of racing in the nation’s heartland. The four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) champion started the weekend out strong in the No. 30 Rheem Comfort Products Chevrolet, finishing 10th in the first practice session and 13th in final practice on Thursday. Hornaday and the NCWTS then tackled NASCAR’s “knockout” qualifying format for the first time on Friday afternoon, earning the 14th starting position with a time of 30.862 seconds for Friday night’s shootout. On a picture-perfect evening, the field took the green flag, but before they could complete the lap, Hornaday was touched by another competitor in Turn 4, causing a multi-truck accident. Despite suffering damage, the No.30 team was able to make repairs to the Rheem Chevrolet and keep Hornaday on the lead lap, restarting 27th on lap seven. Hornaday wasted no time making his march towards the front and worked his way into the 14th position by the time the third caution came out on lap 35. After coming in for adjustments during the caution, Hornaday settled into the top 15 after the restart and would maintain his position until Lap 57 when Hornaday was again involved in a multi-truck accident, bringing out the fifth caution of the day. Despite suffering damage, Hornaday and his TSM still remained on the lead lap and would restart P17. What a crazy night. My guys at Turner Scott Motorsports worked so hard to build me a great truck for this weekend and I couldn’t be more proud of them. This Rheem Comfort Products team never gave up after battling through adversity towards the beginning of the race. It was tough fighting through the field after the damage we suffered in the first two accidents, but we were able to get a top-10 finish, which is fantastic.
