Menard Aims to Continue Momentum In the Top-Five at Bristol

August 20, 2013

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series – IRWIN Tools Night Race
August 24, 2013 – Bristol Motor Speedway
Paul Menard, No. 27

Paul Menard will pilot chassis No. 414 at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. This No. 27 Chevrolet SS previously ran this season at Auto Club Speedway, Darlington Raceway and Kentucky Speedway, with its best finish of eight coming at Auto Club Speedway. Menard has 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at the half-mile oval. His best start of fourth and best finish of fifth both came in 2011. In Menard’s last five Sprint Cup Series events at Bristol Motor Speedway, he has earned four top-10 finishes. The Wisconsin native has completed 5,990 of 6,009 laps attempted (99.7 percent) at the Bristol, Tenn., track, leading 36 of them. In this event last year at Bristol Motor Speedway, Menard started the No. 27 Chevrolet seventh and finished 10th, collecting his third top-10 finish at the Tennessee short-track.

I really enjoy short-track racing. That is what our sport was built around. Night racing at Bristol (Motor Speedway) always makes for an exciting evening, for some reason the sparks seem to fly even more when you race under the lights. We’ve had a pretty good record at Bristol over the past couple of years with four top-10 finishes. We’re coming off a great fourth-place run at Michigan International Speedway last weekend and I’m confident that momentum will carry into this weekend. Qualifying is key at Bristol, because track position is very important. If we can get a good starting spot for our Schrock/Menards Chevrolet and stay out of trouble, we’ll be in good shape on Saturday evening. – Paul Menard
