Q & A with the Engineers

Why did you decide to become an engineer?

Shruti S. – Choosing to become a materials engineer was a diverse path for me, driven by a desire to gain knowledge and enhance my skill set. My aspiration is to pave the way for future opportunities for society. This vision is what led me to pursue a career in engineering.

Felicity R. – I wanted to pursue engineering because of my love of the physical sciences. High school chemistry and physics classes are where I learned about the mechanics of physical processes for the first time in greater detail and complexity. Learning those fundamental details about how the world works made science come to life for me, and that inspiration turned into motivation because of the support and encouragement I received from my family.

Lauren B. – I decided to become an engineer because I have always been fascinated with understanding how things work and passionate about solving complex problems. Additionally, I enjoy being creative and designing something from the ground up. Luckily, I have found the best of both worlds as a packaging engineer!

Anslee C. – I became an engineer because my father and now husband are both engineers and I enjoyed discussing things with them and seeing how they developed solutions to the issues that they faced on a regular basis.

What do you love most about being an engineer?

Shruti S. – One of the greatest joys of being an engineer is witnessing the pride in my parents’ eyes as they proudly share my work with a prestigious company in the USA – Rheem. It’s a moment of profound connection, as I recognize in myself the same values of honesty and hard work that they embody. This sense of alignment, coupled with the opportunity to contribute to society through my profession, brings me immense satisfaction and a deep sense of fulfillment.

Felicity R. – As an engineer, I get to be immersed in STEM every day. I love that my passion for learning and problem-solving can flourish through this career. Also, through engineering I am able to make positive impacts on people’s lives through the products that I work with.

Lauren B. – What I enjoy most about engineering is being able to make a tangible impact on the world. Engineering offers a perfect blend of creativity and analytical thinking, allowing me to design and develop solutions that improve people’s lives. I often return to my alma mater to recruit young engineers and encourage students to continue to pursue a career in STEM. I am grateful I chose this career path and would enjoy seeing other generations fall in love with engineering as I have.

Anslee C. – I enjoy the process of being presented with an issue and finding several solutions and determining which is the best. Finding a viable, simple and cost-effective solution to a problem is exciting and rewarding.
